my brother was a worker for a very big contractor,
but he was thrown out all of a sudden and
he had to be unemployed for several months,
legitimate work at home jobs came to help my brother
and now he is very happy to his new turn in life

The tiny octopus,
about the size of a human forearm
appendages extended,
floated lazily in the water that remained.
It watched intently
through glass walls and portholes
as workers struggled
for the day’s first busload of schoolchildren
a 9:30 a.m. field trip.
linseed-and-cork
soaked up the seawater.
squished beneath feet the rest of the day.
